The Stockade Sentry Box #2
An armed guard stands on duty at the sentry box above the northern wall of the stockade. Behind the posing warders is the prison kitchen-bakehouse, and, in the distance, the warders’ barracks.
Sentry boxes were perched high on the stockade wall in two locations, the first on the south-west corner above the road leading from the causeway to the stockade gate, and this second box towards the north-eastern corner.
Both boxes were manned by warders with carbines and revolvers.
