By the turn of the twentieth century, the island prison on St Helena had peaked. With over
300 prisoners, the prison facilities were complete, and remained relatively unchanged until the prison’s decline in the 1920s.

The four maps in this display feature the island and the stockade as they appeared around 1900, and the area under crops in 1887.
